Newcastle United are reportedly ‘considering a £50m bid’ for Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk amid interest from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.

I feel we’re going to be hearing a lot about Mudryk in the coming months.

The winger is the belle of the ball at the moment amid his sensational start to the 2021/22 campaign.

The 21-year-old was the matchwinner for Donetsk in their opening Champions League group game against RB Leipzig. He grabbed a goal and two assists in the Ukrainian side’s 4-1 victory.

Mudryk also got on the scoresheet as Shakhtar Donetsk drew 1-1 against Celtic last time out.

He could have left Donetsk during the summer as Everton had a bid rejected for him.

The Toffees now have very little chance of signing Mudryk, as lots of teams are now interested in him with Mudryk’s stock through the roof.

Arsenal and Liverpool are known to be admirers but Fabrizio Romano suggested earlier this month that around 15 clubs will be in for Mudryk:

“Despite growing speculation, I have no updates on Mudryk now – I think he will be linked with 15 clubs in the next three months, and it’s normal as he’s a top talent, but nothing will be decided now,” Romano said.

“Shakhtar will take their time and I’m sure they want more than €45-50m for Mudryk … but we’ve to see how his performances in the Champions League will be in the next weeks.

“I’m a big fan of the player, still only 21 years old and doing important things in the Champions League, but I can’t currently say much more in terms of where we’ll be seeing him in the future.”

His contract is not due to expire until 2026 so Shakhtar Donetsk are under no pressure to sell him.

But they find themselves in a dream scenario with so many teams reportedly interested in their prized asset.

This interest will likely drive his price up and I News are reporting that ‘Newcastle United are considering a £50m bid’.

The Magpies ‘have watched’ Mudryk and they are now understood to have ‘serious interest’ in him.

Newcastle are in a great position financially and it is claimed that Mudryk’s asking price ‘is not beyond them’. I News add that the price tag for him ‘is just south of £50m’.

The report includes quotes from a source who has suggested that Mudryk “ticks every box technically”:

“He is tailor-made for English football and every club knows it. He ticks every box technically and his age and relative inexperience mean he’s only going to get better.

“He’s a long way off being the finished article but he’s got all the attributes. He’s undoubtedly one of the most exciting prospects in European football right now.”
