After the cancellation of Ralf Rangnick, FC Bayern is slowly but surely running out of coaching candidates. According to the latest reports, a new option could soon emerge that Munich would certainly consider. We are talking about Pep Guardiola.

Will Bayern be handed a new coaching candidate on a silver platter? According to recent media reports, Pep Guardiola could leave Manchester City prematurely at the end of this season.

As The Athletic reports, it is quite possible that the 53-year-old will voluntarily vacate his coaching post with the Sky Blues one year before the end of his contract.

However, this would be subject to City becoming English champions. It would be the fourth championship in a row for Guardiola and his team. No other club or coach has achieved such a run in the Premier League. After winning the treble last year, Guardiola would become one of the most successful coaches in the EPL. According to The Athletic, this would be the ideal time for the successful coach to end his era in Manchester.

City prepare for Guardiola’s departure

Reports have been doing the rounds in England for some time that City and Guardiola could part ways. Until now, however, it has always been assumed that the Catalan will fulfil his contract and not leave the club until the summer of 2025.

Interestingly, according to the Daily Mirror, City bosses are already preparing for Guardiola’s departure. Michel Sanchez from FC Girona is rumoured to be the top candidate to succeed him. Sanchez is one of the shooting stars in the Spanish La Liga. The fact that Girona is part of the City Group speaks in favour of the 48-year-old. This would give them a coach „from their own ranks“.

New club project or national team?

How Guardiola will continue (in the long term) after his time at Manchester City remains to be seen. He himself fancies a job as a national team coach: „I would like to experience a World Cup, a European Championship, a Copa América or whatever. I don’t know when – in five, ten, fifteen years – but I would love to be a coach at a World Cup,“ he has emphasised in the past.

One thing is clear, however: if Guardiola ends up on the coaching market in the summer, Bayern will take a look at him. Munich still maintain a friendly relationship with their former coach.

With FC Bayern, for whom he worked as head coach between 2013 and 2016, he won three German championships in a row and won the DFB Cup twice. He also won the UEFA Super Cup and the Club World Cup with FCB. It is an open secret that Bayern would have liked to extend Guardiola’s contract at the time. However, after three years in Munich, he decided to move to Manchester.
