Thomas Tuchel will leave Bayern Munich at the end of this season, according to Florian Plettenberg.

Since February, Bayern’s manager saga has been nothing short of a shambles, and it’s left Bayern bosses with eggs all over their faces.

When the club announced Tuchel would be departing at the end of the summer, they assumed they’d have a new coach ready to fill the role well before May.

However, that hasn’t been the case.

Some of the coaches that have been linked to the role include Xabi Alonso, Oliver Glasner, Ralf Rangnick, Hansi Flick, Roberto De Zerbi, and Julen Lopetegui.

The club were perhaps closest to signing Rangnick, but the German opted to stay on as head coach of Austria and focus on Euro 2024 and beyond.

In full politician style, Bayern then did a massive U-turn and looked set to stay with Tuchel.

The only issue was that Tuchel wanted an extension, whereas the club wanted him to run down his current deal, which expires in June 2025.

Speaking on the announcement that he would indeed be leaving this season, Tuchel said: “We couldn’t reach an agreement. I won’t name the reasons. The agreement from February stands.”

Though he didn’t mention the reasoning, the evidence points towards contractual issues.

Now we’re back where we started: Bayern looking for a new manager.
