The final of the quarter-finals at Euro 2024 sees a entertaining looking clash between Netherlands and Turkey.
Both sides will be hoping to emerge victorious and set up a semi-final clash with either England or Switzerland.
Netherlands appear to be one of the sides that are growing into this tournament more with every game. Many thought a round of 16 tie against Romania could provide a stumbling block for the side but they were able to overcome the Eastern European nation with relative ease, setting up this mouth watering clash with Turkey.
The perennial ‘dark horses’ are looking to finally shed that tag and go all the way this summer. Their victory over Austria in the round of 16 was an impressive one, one matched by wins over Georgia and Czech Republic in the group stage. A semi-final appearance would represent a great achievement for Turkey but it might not be enough to satiate their enthusiastic supporters.
Van Dijk has had four shots at Euro 2024 so far, averaging one a game, and three of those have been headers from corners. He was unlucky to hit the post against Romania and his ability to cause confusion and panic in the penalty area could means he finally breaks his duck at the tournament.
Gakpo has been the top scorer for Netherlands at this competition and even added an assist to his game in the last match against Romania. He’ll play off the left but his ability to come inside and get a shot at goal could be invaluable against Turkey.
It’s been a very impressive tournament for the Liverpool players, with many Reds fans hoping that new boss Arne Slot will get the best out of his after a fairly disappointing spell at Anfield so far. His performances for Netherlands have been hugely impressive though, with the left sided player being the main attacking outlet and currently leads the goalscoring. charts at the competition, with three goals.
‘The Turkish Messi’ has certainly lived up to the billing so far, bringing some scintillating performances as well as an incredible goal against Georgia. He’s proven to be the main source of inspiration in the final third for Turkey and he’ll have to continue to show his absolute best to overcome a Netherlands defence containing the imperious Virgil Van Dijk.
