Inter Milan wingback Denzel Dumfries will be fit for Friday’s Serie A match against Genoa, whilst Lautaro Martinez and Federico Dimarco are still out.
Today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, anticipate that the Nerazzurri will want to have the Dutchman back to his best against Hellas Verona early next month.
For the past few weeks, Dumfries has been on the sidelines with a thigh strain.
The 27-year-old former PSV wingback picked up the muscle injury during a Serie A win away to Napoli early this month.
Inter have not been keen to rush Dumfries back from the injury. The aim has been to give the player ample time to recover and build up fitness.
That way, the Dutchman would not risk reinjury, and can return at his best physically speaking.
According to the Gazzetta, though, all systems are go for Dumfries to return on Friday.
The 27-year-old is back in training following the completion of his recovery process.
Dumfries will be part of Inter’s squad for their trip to Liguria to face Genoa. However, this does not necessarily mean that he will start the match.
It could still be Matteo Darmian who starts the match on the right flank. Juan Cuadrado is out for the foreseeable future as he recovers from surgery.
Dumfries could certainly get a fair bit of playing time from the bench at the very least, though.
Then, Inter are targeting January 6’s Serie A match against Hellas Verona for the Dutchman to be back to his best and ready to start.
Meanwhile, returns for Inter captain Lautaro Martinez and wingback Federico Dimarco are not far away.
But Friday’s match will be too soon for the pair. Neither will be in the squad to face Genoa, reports the Gazzetta.
