Defender Stefan de Vrij will be fully fit for Inter Milan’s Serie A clash at home to Atalanta on Friday evening.
This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, via FCInterNews.
De Vrij has missed Inter’s first couple of matches of the season.
The 32-year-old has been on the sidelines with a thigh strain.
De Vrij picked up the injury during a friendly match against Al-Ittihad. That was the only friendly match that he had appeared in during the preseason period.
De Vrij had been part of the Netherlands squad that reached the semifinal stage of EURO 2024. He was a regular in the Oranje starting eleven along with Inter teammate Denzel Dumfries.
De Vrij is one of a few Inter players to have picked up muscle injuries during the preseason period.
This was perhaps not a surprise considering the truncated training camp, with the majority of the squad returning late after participation at the Euros and the Copa America.
De Vrij and Dumfries were two of the latest returnees.
The former Lazio and Feyenoord defender did not rush back to the pitch. He has patiently recovered from his injury, missing matches against Genoa and Lecce.
But de Vrij has long been targeting Inter’s match against Atalanta on Friday to make his return.
According to Tuttosport, de Vrij has already made his return to full training.
The Dutchman completed most of a full session with the rest of the squad yesterday.
And today, de Vrij should work completely normally with his teammates.
Therefore, the 32-year-old will have a few days to work on his match-fitness ahead of Friday’s match against Atalanta.
De Vrij has recovered from his injury.
And there is no doubt now that the former Lazio defender will be at least able to be on the bench on Friday.
