Nemanja Matic terminates contract with Lyon | OneFootball

Nemanja Matic is a free agent after mutually terminating his contract with French side Lyon.

The Serbian joined Lyon midway through the 2023/24 season after previously having played for Rennes.

The 37-year-old featured 39 times for Lyon in all competitions last season but did not feature in any of the Europa League quarter-finals against former club Manchester United. Despite having one year left on his Lyon contract, both sides have now agreed to part ways.

"A consummate professional, he has also established himself as a role model in the dressing room and a valuable source of support for younger players," Lyon said in a statement.

"Olympique Lyonnais would like to sincerely thank Nemanja for his commitment and professionalism throughout his time at the club and wishes him all the best for the future of his career."

In total, Matic featured 58 times for the French side, scoring once.
