Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba combine to stunning effect vs Burnley | OneFootball

Manchester United now sit pretty at the top of the table thanks to their victory over Burnley and supporters are loving every minute of it.

Paul Pogba rightfully got all the attention and praise though there’s recognition and appreciation that it was a team effort.

One of the main talking points, when the lineups were announced, was the midfield partnership as the talented Frenchman sat alongside Nemanja Matic.

No one necessarily disagreed with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s logic but there were question marks over whether they would work well together.

It’s safe to say both Matic and Pogba absolutely reassured any doubts and not just about their offensive talents but their defensive capabilities too.

Given that the two towering midfielders notched those numbers against one of the most combative teams in the league it makes it all the more impressive.

Matic is known for his defensive solidity however so perhaps his part isn’t such a surprise but Pogba’s certainly is.

The former Juventus man has often been accused of being defensively lazy in the past so it’s safe to say he ended that label.

If the pair continue to put in similar performances, there’s no real reason for Solskjaer to drop them in favour of Scott McTominay and Fred.
