Houston Dynamo forward Nelson Quinones will miss the upcoming 2024 MLS campaign after sustaining a knee injury on international duty for the U23 Colombian national team.
The young winger picked up the long-term injury at the 2024 CONMEBOL Pre-Olympic Tournament and will be sidelined for the rest of the year. Quinones was originally on loan at Houston, but the Western Conference team made his move permanent last summer after he impressed and would go on to finish the 2023 season with four goals and two assists.
Quinones' injury comes at a tough time for Ben Olsen's attacking unit, as striker Corey Baird departed the club this offseason to join FC Cincinnati as a free agent.
"The 21-year-old was recently evaluated in Houston by the team medical staff to confirm the season-ending injury and the forward will undergo surgery later this month," the club said in a statement.
With Quinones' injury, the Dynamo now have the likes of Daniel Rios, Ifunanyachi Achara, Carlos Fereirra and Ibrahim Aliyu in their attacking department and they could look to bring in another player to provide Olsen with another option up front.
Houston, fresh off a trip to the Western Conference final while lifting the US Open Cup, kick-off their 2024 MLS season on February 24 against Sporting Kansas City at Shell Energy Stadium.
