It has been a rather manic few days within the Luton Town camp, with the expected departure of Nathan Jones meaning that the Hatters will be assessing their managerial options going forward.

According to John Percy of The Telegraph, who has provided one of the latest updates on Jones’ situation, Assistant Manager Chris Cohen and coach Alan Sheehan are likely to follow the Welshman to Southampton.

The update also suggests that the Hatters are already interviewing candidates to succeed the 49-year-old, whilst a few names have been linked with the expected vacancy.

Luton sit ninth in the Championship standings thus far, and after finishing in the play-offs last time out, the levels of expectation around Kenilworth Road is high.

What do we know so far?

A Football League World exclusive has linked current Bournemouth caretaker manager Gary O’Neil with the job and also Jonathan Woodgate.

Adding a further two candidates to the radar, Football Insider has claimed that the Hatters are also considering Cambridge United boss Mark Bonner and former Blackpool manager Neil Critchley.

The fact that Percy’s update suggests that Cohen and Sheehan are likely to follow Jones to the South Coast rules out the possibility of an internal appointment.

More names will likely emerge in the coming days as it remains to be seen how long of a process finding Jones’ successor will be.

Is it likely to happen?

At this stage, it is hard to judge as it appears that he is just a name among a bunch of candidates that Luton will be considering.

Given where the club currently is, and the harmonious relationship Jones had with the Luton hierarchy, it is an attractive job, and subsequently, there is likely to be a lot of interest.

It will also be interesting to see if it would be an opportunity that the former Blackpool man would be interested in, following his latest stint as Assistant Manager at Aston Villa.

Critchley is one of the more impressive names who has been linked or mentioned by Luton fans thus far, with his ability to work well under a budget an attractive proposition.
