It looks like it's going to be a great season for Kaizer Chiefs.
Nasreddine Nabi reveals the team's captain for the next season.
Nasreddine Nabi has ushered in a fresh chapter for Kaizer Chiefs, appointing Angolan defender Inácio Miguel as the club’s new permanent captain following Yusuf Maart’s departure.
Maart, who spent three seasons with Amakhosi after joining from Sekhukhune United in 2022, sealed his legacy by scoring the winning goal in last season’s Nedbank Cup final—ending Chiefs’ decade-long trophy drought. The 30-year-old midfielder has since moved to Austrian side SV Ried, leaving the armband vacant.

Miguel, who led the team during their pre-season tour in the Netherlands, was again entrusted with the captaincy in Saturday’s Toyota Cup clash against Asante Kotoko. Despite a 3-2 penalty shootout defeat at Moses Mabhida Stadium, Nabi confirmed the defender will retain the role for the upcoming campaign.
“Today, Miguel was our captain—and he will continue as captain for the season,” the Chiefs coach stated.
Reflecting on the match, Nabi expressed optimism despite the loss, acknowledging missed opportunities while praising his squad’s effort.
“Overall, I’m pleased with the performance—it showed us where we stand,” he said. “We had chances to win, especially in the final ten minutes, but it wasn’t to be. Still, the players gave everything. With two weeks before our league opener, we’ll work on refining both our strengths and weaknesses.”
Chiefs begin their 2025/26 Premiership campaign with an away fixture against Stellenbosch FC.
