The Partenopei have agreed to pay a fee of €30.5m for the 27-year-old midfielder, but according to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, the player still has some outstanding issues to resolve with Manchester United first.

The United academy graduate is into the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, which expires on June 30, 2025.

McTominay is not the only Scotland midfielder that Napoli have been pushing to sign. Brighton’s Billy Gilmour has also been a target for most of this summer, but the two parties are still around €2m apart in their valuations.

Additionally, Brighton coach Fabian Hürzeler is pushing to keep Gilmour, who started in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Manchester United and came off the bench in the 3-0 win over Everton on the opening weekend of the season.

According to Sunday’s reports, Napoli will look to sign one of McTominay or Gilmour immediately, more likely to be the former at this moment in time. They will then likely have to circle back for the other player once they have managed to sell a few of their current players first.
