Keen on making Ruben Amorim as comfortable as possible at Old Trafford, Manchester United chiefs have begun planning how they can reunite him with one of his most prolific talismans.
The news will come as music to fans’ ears, too, as they’ve been urging INEOS to go all-out in pursuit of the renowned goalscorer Viktor Gyokeres.
Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg revealed last night that the Red Devils have now initiated ‘concrete talks’ to sign the Sweden international, once hailed by Tony Mowbray as the ‘Championship’s Erling Haaland’ during his time at Coventry City.
Gyokeres has notched an unprecedented 24 goals and four assists in only 21 matches this term, including a hat-trick in Amorim’s final home game with Sporting Lisbon against Manchester City.

However, City’s hierarchy was seemingly left so impressed that they, too, are hoping they can bring the 26-year-old to the blue side of Manchester.
Should they opt to ignite their pursuit as early as January, which is plausible given that money is no obstacle and they’re now winless in seven matches, United will be left waiting in the wings, hoping that a deal fails to materialise. Not only because INEOS are unlikely to sanction any big-money moves mid-season but also because Amorim vowed he would avoid any winter transfers from Sporting out of respect for his former club.
That, in turn, could also play in United’s favour if Gyokeres favours working under his ex-coach again rather than Pep Guardiola, knowing that he’s likely to play second fiddle to Haaland up front.
Plettenberg added that United must recuperate funds through player sales before they’d be able to sanction the striker’s arrival.
