Scotland made their return to a major tournament for the first time since 1998 on Monday, but Czech Republic spoiled the party at Hampden Park.
And our Man of the Match was …
You won’t have heard many pundits tipping Schick for the Golden Boot before the tournament, but it appears the Czech striker is now well in with a shout.
The Bayer Leverkusen man netted against Albania in a warm-up game last week and it took him 42 minutes to open his account at the tournament proper, when he ghosted in at the back post to head home from VladimĂr Coufal’s cross.
Then early in the second half came a goal that will be remembered as one of the moments of the tournament, when Schick made it 2-0 with an incredible dipping, swerving strike from the half-way line.
A penalty box poacher and a scorer of worldies.
Get you a man who can do both.
