Stockport County began their 2025/26 League One campaign with a 2-0 win over Bolton Wanderers.
The Hatters took the lead just before the break with a goal that was scruffy but eventually resulted in Malik Mothersille, making his debut for County after joining from Peterborough Untied in the summer, providing the final touch from close range.
Bolton had started the first half well but weren't able to find the net. Steven Schumacher won't be happy with his team's inability to clear their lines before Mothersille was in the right place.
The home side wrapped up the win in the 89th minute as Danny Andrew's delivery was headed past goalkeeper Teddy Sharman-Lowe by Kyle Wootton.
That result means Stockport are fifth in the table after the first round of games with Huddersfield Town on top by goal difference. Bolton meanwhile will end the weekend in 22nd place.
