Bolton Wanderers are keen to add former Swansea City defender Cyrus Christie to their ranks.
Bolton Wanderers are keen to bolster their defensive ranks with the addition of experienced defender Cyrus Christie, who is currently a free agent having left Swansea City earlier in 2025.
The 32-year-old has been unattached after a disrupted second stint at the Welsh side last season, which saw him finish the campaign with just 11 Championship outings to his name.
However, interest hasn't been short in his services over the summer, with second-tier sides Watford and Queens Park Rangers both exploring a potential move for the former Fulham star, which was exclusively revealed by Football League World.
Whilst neither of these moves materialised for Christie, he could now be on his way to League One, according to journalist Alan Nixon via his Patreon page, as Bolton are keen to wrap up a quick swoop for his service.
Steven Schumacher's side have won just one of their opening six league matches, and are reportedly keen to bring the former Republic of Ireland international to Lancashire on a free transfer.
Game time has been hard to come by for Christie in recent years, which culminated in him making just 12 appearances across all competitions in his second stint at Swansea last season.
However, the 32-year-old is clearly still hungry to give his all to a new club, and has taken the summer to weigh up his options, with destinations such as QPR and Watford being mentioned, but not coming to fruition.
Now, it seems like Christie could be on the verge of dropping into League One to sign for Bolton, according to Nixon, as the Whites want to wrap up a deal quickly to sign the former Ireland international.
The ex-Fulham star will bring Schumacher some quality in depth at right-back, and represents what will be a low-risk move from Wanderers, as he will cost them absolutely nothing.
The advantage of signing a free agent is that they aren't bound by any deadlines, so whilst many clubs rush to get their business done, the Trotters don't have to have this one done by Monday.
Whilst the reports from Nixon suggest that Schumacher wants the deal over the line as soon as possible, they can focus on getting their business done for contracted targets today, and then finalise a deal for Christie in the coming days.
We sometimes see clubs agree mutual contract terminations towards the end of a transfer window, which allows an out-of-favour player to seek a new club without the constraints of the deadline, and that will be the same for the 32-year-old, who has been unattached since the end of June.
