Barcelona consolidated their position at the top of the league table when they secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Getafe on Sunday. The win indeed helped the club maintain their three-point lead over arch-rivals Real Madrid.

Among a total of around 79,814 people who attended the game at Camp Nou, one of them was Sofyan Amrabat, reports Toni Juanmarti.

The Spanish journalist claims the Morocco international was watching Barcelona in action against Getafe, amid speculations linking him to a move to Camp Nou.

Formerly of Club Brugge, Amrabat currently plies his trade with Fiorentina. He has been a part of the Italian side since 2020 and has featured in 82 competitive matches for the team.

While Amrabat was always regarded as one of Fiorentina’s best performers, his real breakthrough came during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, when he starred for a Moroccan side that reached the semi-finals of the competition.

His performances did not go unnoticed either, with Barcelona among the clubs interested in the services of the Fiorentina midfield general.

To that end, Amrabat’s attendance in the Catalans’ game against Getafe immediately signalled the possibility of a potential meeting with the Catalans over a potential move to Camp Nou in this January transfer window.

But the report from Toni Juanmarti suggests that the club have denied any meeting with the Moroccan international. Either way, the likelihood of a January move was always close to none as the player still has a contract at Fiorentina until 2024.

This should give the Violas enough leverage to hold out for a hefty fee for the midfielder. However, it will not come as a surprise to see Barcelona approach the 26-year-old in the coming summer, when Fiorentina might be pressurised to sell the player, in light of his expiring contract in 2024.
