Barcelona’s interest in Viktor Gyokeres is no longer under wraps. The Swedish forward, currently shining for Sporting CP, has emerged as a strong candidate to eventually replace Robert Lewandowski.
Now, according to David Bernabeu’s report in SPORT, Barcelona have already formulated a strategy to secure the striker’s services in the near future.
For now, Lewandowski’s future at the club appears secure. The Polish star will automatically renew his contract for next season after surpassing the 55% game participation clause.
Lewandowski himself is keen to continue at Barcelona, maintaining his role as the leader of the Blaugrana attack.
In this scenario, Barcelona’s plan is straightforward. The club intends to sign Gyokeres for approximately €70 million and then loan him back to Sporting for another season.
Although the Swedish striker’s release clause is set at €100 million, Barça believe a deal can be struck for a lower amount.
This approach would allow Lewandowski to remain the focal point of Barcelona’s attack for another year, while Gyokeres continues to develop and thrive in Portugal and European competitions.

However, the operation is not without its challenges. At 27 years old (turning 27 next June), Gyokeres would need to be open to staying another year in Lisbon, which might not align with his personal ambitions.
Additionally, Barcelona face stiff competition for the player, with interest from several top clubs. Manchester United are one of those competitors.
With the team struggling this season, United are eager to bring in a reliable centre-forward. Their manager, Ruben Amorim, previously coached Gyokeres at Sporting, which could make Old Trafford an attractive destination for the striker.
Manchester City are another potential suitor, particularly if Erling Haaland decides to leave the club in the coming years. The situation becomes even more complex with Hugo Viana, Sporting’s current sporting director, set to join City soon.
Viana’s presence could influence City to seriously consider Gyokeres as Haaland’s replacement, posing a significant obstacle to Barcelona’s plans.
Barcelona will need to act decisively to secure Gyokeres’ signature amidst fierce competition from Premier League giants.
