Manchester United have a new problem on their hands as maintaining Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie might not be as simple as they had initially thought.
The two youngsters were automatic starters during Erik ten Hag’s reign at the club. While their roles have been reduced following Ruben Amorim’s arrival in November, their status as protagonists for the future remains undisputed.
These players are considered unsellable by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS who want to build the team around these two players alongside other youngsters like Rasmus Hojlund and Amad Diallo.
Therefore, the club’s hierarchy is looking to armour the Argentine winger and English midfielder with new and improved contracts. But according to the Daily Mail, the club has been falling short on this particular front, struggling to reach agreements with the two players, leaving their fates up in the air.
As the source notes, Mainoo and Garnacho are two of the club’s lowest earners. The Englishman collects £20,000 per week with his contract running until June 2027 (with an option for an additional year), while the Argentina international is on £50,000 a week with the deadline set in June 2028.
So while this might not be a short-term problem for United thanks to the relatively lengthy deadlines, this remains an issue to be sorted in order to ward off their suitors who will certainly attempt to pounce on any cracks in the rapport between the club and the young duo.
On the contrary, the Premier League giants will be looking to rid themselves of some of their highest earners who haven’t been able to produce the goods on the pitch, with Casemiro chief amongst them.
