Montreal staged an incredible comeback to claim a memorable victory over Toronto in the latest installment of the Canadian Classique.
Scorers: Bernardeschi 5âČ (pen), Insigne 7âČ, 90+3âČ; Miller 19âČ, MihailoviÄ 21âČ, Kamara 43âČ, Johnston 54âČ
The hosts hit the front with in the opening five minutes when Federico Bernardeschi converted from the spot to keep his 100% scoring record going in his five home games to date at BMO Field.
The smoke hadnât even cleared when two minutes later fellow Italian star Lorenzo Insigne volleyed home from close range to send the home fans into delirium.
Despite being stunned by that initial barrage, Montréal managed to steady the ship and pulled one back through Kamal Miller.
And, amazingly, the game was all-square by the 21st minute when ÄorÄe MihailoviÄâs drive from distance proved too hot to handle.
Victor Wanyama was guilty of a glaring miss when he headed over an open goal, but Montréal were not unduly affected by that incident and remarkably took the lead through Kai Kamara to complete a remarkable first-half comeback.
Kamara turned provider after the break as he nodded into Alistair Johnstonâs path for the wing-back to head home and rubber-stamp MontrĂ©al dominance of proceedings.
A late consolation goal from Insigne could not prevent a chastening defeat for Toront, damaging their post-season hopes and leaving them four points adrift of the play-off places.
A ninth away win of the season sees Montréal copper-fasten second spot in the Eastern Conference, as they move five point clear of New York Red Bulls.
