Luka Modrić collected the Man-of-the-Match award in Real Madrid's triumph over Inter Milan at the Santiago Bernabéu, a game in which the Croatian chalked up his 100th Champions League appearance. The large majority of these outings in the elite continental competition have been in a Real Madrid shirt (92), with the remaining eight coming during his time at Tottenham.
At the end of the game, Modrić reflected on the win in the following terms: "I'm really pleased with the performance and the result because we wanted to finish top of the group and avoid the stronger teams, although once you've qualified you have to win every game if you want to win the trophy".
"Our coach told us to keep the ball in their half. We did very well to recover possession when they countered and when we had the ball, we enjoyed possession and created chances, which is how we scored Kroos's amazing goal in the first half. We would've like to have had more possession, but that was the coach's plan and we're happy. At half-time, he told us to keep it up, press them and to hold on to the ball for longer without rushing and just to be calm".
Personal form "I'm feeling really good, I shouldn’t look at my age and just focus on my performances and what I do on the pitch. Age is becoming less of an issue as the years go by because players are able to extend their careers. I feel like I've not hit 30 yet". “It was great to play in front of our fans, who helped us and got behind us from the first whistle. The atmosphere was fantastic. We have to thank them for that”.
Barella sending-off “His reaction to Militão, who was only looking to protect the ball, was a bit ugly. He bumped into him and he got angry and reacted badly, but that’s part of the game and things sometimes get heated. Everything gets forgotten”.
