The delay for the renewals of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara was far from ideal. In fact, Milan have already admitted defeat on that front, but the directors are now eager to get back to business and make up for lost time.
Maldini announced the renewal from his car as he was exiting Casa Milan late last night, clearly relieved that the parties got it over the line. However, he made it clear that they need to make up for the time lost: “We started a bit late but we will make up for the lost time”.
As highlighted by MilanNews, it’s clear that the delay was a failure by Milan, an own-goal that everyone could see so clear. The Scudetto celebrations were (unfortunately) quickly swapped for anxiety and it was rather unnecessary, one could argue.
But the reaction is always the most important part, and Maldini showed straight away that work needs to be done (and fast). There is no more time to waste as the Rossoneri want to be even stronger next season, aiming for the 20th Scudetto and the second star.
