Here’s how it’s going down.

Austin mount stunning comeback at home to Sporting KC

Scorers:  Gallagher 27′, Cascante 63′, Hoesen 85′, Driussi 90+4′; Fontas 12′, Agada 23′, Russell 40′

Sporting KC had a surprising and clinical first-half performance, taking an early lead through Andreu Fontàs, tapping home after Brad Stuver spilt a direct freekick.

William Agada would double the visitor’s lead ten minutes later as, once again, Stuver could only parry the first attempt on target presenting the Nigerian forward with a golden opportunity with which he made no mistake.

Austin FC found a lifeline when Jon Gallagher rifled home from the edge of the box but, master of their own downfall, a penalty five minutes from the break would increase the gap to two goals once more – Johnny Russell stepping up to slot the spot kick.

Austin FC pulled themselves back into the encounter when Julio Cascante halved the deficit on the hour mark, reacting quickest in the box to head home Sebastián Driussi’s deflected cross.

Strong appeals for a penalty following what seemed to be a handball by Sporting defender Andreu Fontás were waved away before second-half substitute Danny Hoesen would draw Austin level.

In the end, it was Austin’s star man who would step up in stoppage time as Driussi reacted quickest in the box to slot home the loose and complete Austin’s stunning comeback.

Inter Miami come from behind twice to beat New York City FC

Scorers: Pozuelo 39′, 84′, Lassiter 63′; Magnowho 34′, 45+2′

It was New York City FC who would break the deadlock with a wonderfully worked set-piece routine. Maximiliano Moralez shapes to shoot from the edge of the area but, instead, disguises an ingenious clip the ball to the back post instead.

Maxime Chanot meets the cross with a deft header that puts the ball on a plate for Talles Magnowho, with a helping hand from the post, put NYCFC ahead.

The lead would only last a matter of minutes though as Bryce Duke slipped through Alejandro Pozuelo and, from the top of the box, the Spaniard curled home a clinical equaliser.

Inter Miami would spurn a great opportunity to take the lead as former-Arsenal defender Kieren Gibbs was put through on goal by Gonzalo Higuain, but the 32-year-old fired wide.

A missed chance they would come to rue as New York retook the ascendency on the stroke of half-time. With the ball bouncing around the penalty area, and the hosts struggling to clear their lines, Thiago Andrade lashed home a powerful strike.

Inter Miami would get themselves back on level terms just after the hour mark and Higuaín was involved again. The Argentine striker poked the ball through to Ariel Lassiter who, on the turn, lashed home a second equaliser of the night.

Pozuelo would complete a frantic turnaround as he latched onto a loose backpass to slot home the fifth and final goal of the evening earning Inter Miami all three points.

Toronto FC survive late scare to overcome Portland Timbers

Scorers: Osorio 40′, Insigne 79′, Bernardeschi 85′; Van Rankin 73′

Toronto FC survived a late scare as, inspired by Italian duo Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Bernardeschi, convincingly dispatched Portland Timbers to close in on the play-off positions.

The first real chance came halfway through the first period as Jayden Nelson after being found in the penalty area by Jonathan Osorio was denied from close range before Insigne tested Aljaž Ivačič in Portland’s goal.

Insigne would waste a glorious chance before TFC found their breakthrough. An incisive run down the right wing by Richie Laryea culminated in a simple square pass to his Canadian compatriot, Osorio, to slot home from close range.

Toronto continued to see much more of the possession in the second period but concrete chances were hard to come by.

Insigne chanced his luck from range before Ayo Akinola was denied in a one-on-one having been found by a delightful Bernardeschi pass.

The hosts were made to rue their missed opportunities as, in what was their first real opportunity of the night, defender José Van Rankin found himself unmarked following a swift counter-attack to slot home and draw level.

Their joy, however, would be short-lived as the Italian duo in Toronto stepped up in commanding fashion. Insigne restored the host’s lead in the 79th minute before Bernardeschi made the game safe, wrongfooting Ivačič to seal all three points.
