When you score 70 goals across two league campaigns, you are going to attract attention. Finding the back of the net consistently is one of the hardest things to do in this sport, and that's what Langstaff does best.

He singlehandedly accounted for over 30% of Notts' goals last season and over 35% of their goals in the season prior to that.

It should come as no surprise that clubs way above his side's current league standing are looking to see if they can pinch him off them.

One obvious contender to sign Langstaff had emerged, but now there is a fight on between Swansea and one of their league rivals, and the Welsh side aren't the ones that have thrown the first punch.

Millwall bid for Macaulay Langstaff

The online football publication have reported that the Lions are keen to add the 28-goal League Two striker to their squad, while County are keen to hold on to their prolific number nine.

Wales Online had previously reported that the 27-year-old was on the radar of Swansea, who are now managed by Langstaff's former boss Luke Williams.

Since the 43-year-old arrived in Wales, none of the striker options at his disposal have really clicked. The likes of Jerry Yates, who was signed by previous boss Michael Duff last summer for around £2.5 million from Blackpool, didn't fit well into his system, and he could be moved on this summer.

The Swans boss' former frontman could be a potential Yates replacement. Langstaff scored 42 times in the National League for Williams when the pair were part of County's promotion winning season in the 2022/23 campaign.

He was recently made club captain, in what appears to be a further attempt to keep him at the club in the face of intrigue from teams in the Championship.

Cardiff City and Preston North End have also been credited with interest in Langstaff in the past.

If any Championship team gets Macauley Langstaff, it has to be Swansea

This is a case where budgets, planned spending and things like that need to be largely disregarded; Swansea cannot let another second tier side get their hands on Langstaff before they do.

Their manager knows how to get the absolute best out of him. His goalscoring record shows just how good he can be in the manager's system.

City are going to be short of attacking options that the boss actually wants next season. Jamal Lowe has returned to AFC Bournemouth and his wage demands are going to make a permanent move for him unlikely.

They have to recruit in this area of the pitch, and there is a forward out there who they know works with Williams.

The jump up from League Two to the Championship would be a big one, and a very big ask for the 27-year-old. But the best chance that he has of succeeding in the second tier is with a system that he already knows like the back of his hand.

It could turn out that he's just not ready for that level at all. But what if he is? What if his finishing and attacking positioning translates over to Championship football? The Swans will kick themselves if that happens and he's not playing in white.
