Japhet Tanganga has revealed that he was close to signing for AC Milan two years ago when he was at Spurs, and also admitted a desire to play in Italy in the future.

Tanganga was heavily linked with a move to Milan in the 2022 summer transfer window when he had fallen out of favour at Tottenham and was expected to seal a move away from the club that he had been at since 2009. His agent even claimed Antonio Conte blocked the switch.

In the end nothing materialised but he chose to drop down a division into the Championship last year, joining Millwall who are another London-based club. It meant saying goodbye to Spurs after over 15 years, and after racking up 371 days out due to injury in his career it was a fresh start.

Tanganga gave an interview to gianlucadimarzio.com and he confirmed that a move to the Rossoneri was close, and that in the future he would be open to trying Serie A.

“In 2022 I was close to joining Milan and I would like Serie A in the future. But here I have found continuity and now I am a protagonist,” he said.

The 25-year-old has already had an experience abroad as he joined Bundesliga club Augsburg for the 2023-24 season but he failed to play a single game for them in that time, having only sat on the bench once.
