AC Milan have confirmed the signing of Ecuador international Pervis Estupiñán from Brighton & Hove Albion, with the left-back penning a five-year deal at San Siro.

The Serie A side have paid an initial €17.5 million (£15.1m) for the 27-year-old, with a further €2.5 million (£2.1m) potentially due in performance-related add-ons.

Estupiñán is set to fill the void left by Theo Hernández, who departed for Saudi side Al-Hilal earlier in the summer.

The former Villarreal defender joined Brighton in 2022 for around £15 million as a direct replacement for Marc Cucurella. Over two seasons on the south coast, he made 104 appearances in all competitions, contributing five goals and 12 assists.

A consistent and well-liked figure at the Amex, Estupiñán struck up an effective partnership with Japan international Kaoru Mitoma, forming one of the Premier League’s more dynamic left-sided duos.

Brighton’s signing of Belgium international Maxim De Cuyper from Club Brugge last week, in a deal worth around £16 million, paved the way for Estupiñán’s exit.

He becomes Milan’s third major addition of the summer, following the arrivals of veteran midfielder and Ballon d’Or winner Luka Modric, and Italy international Samuele Ricci.
