Milan aren’t too confident Mike Maignan will accept their latest and likely final offer to prolong his contract, which will expire in 2026, and have resumed searching for a goalkeeper. Their officials are starting to think that the Frenchman would have signed a few months ago if he really wanted to. A similar proposal has been on the table for a long time, La Gazzetta dello Sport relays.
The Rossoneri won’t keep such a valuable piece while risking a Bosman departure in a year. His heir could come from the same team, Lille, as Lucas Chevalier has become a certainty in the last couple of seasons. His valuation is €30/40M since he’s in demand, though.
Milan are also eyeing Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen and Atalanta’s Marco Carnesecchi should they need to replace Maignan. The former joined from Anderlecht for €20M in 2023. His price tag has roughly doubled. It’d be a complex chase because Bayern Munich and Manchester United like him too.
The Atalanta shot-stopper wouldn’t come cheap either given his growth this season and Atalanta’s tendency to monetize as much as possible. The Rossoneri are keen on Alex Meret, but he seems set to renew his Napoli contract late again. Antwerp’s Senne Lammens is a possible reasonably priced fallback.
The chatter is likely just a way to put pressure on their star. Since his demands are fairly manageable for a top team, changing the goalie would make more sense if the substitute, in addition to being reliable, were also a lot less expensive.
