Midfielder Granit Xhaka has made a u-turn on his Arsenal future.

After being stripped of the captaincy following an ugly incident with fans earlier this season, the Switzerland international had been widely expected to leave in January.

A move to Hertha BSC appeared to be on the cards but speaking after Wednesday’s win over Manchester United, in which Xhaka excelled, Mikel Arteta confirmed he is now set to stay.

“I think he is going to stay,” Arteta said of Xhaka to the assembled media.

“I really like him. If we get him on board, he can be a tremendous player for this football club.”

Xhaka has been at the Gunners since 2016, when he arrived from Borussia Mönchengladbach.
