Sky Germany reports that Galatasaray are showing strong interest in Bayer Leverkusen midfield linchpin Granit Xhaka. The 32-year-old Bundesliga star has also been linked with a move to Saudi Arabia. The Swiss international remains under contract with Leverkusen until 2028, but does have his reasons to consider leaving German football.

The defending Bundesliga champions may lose both head coach Xabi Alonso and German playmaker Florian Wirtz this summer. Should Die Werkself lose so many key actors this offseason, Xhaka may wish to reassess his situation. A team not capable of competing for trophies may not appeal to the Swiss veteran.

Xhaka joined Bayer from Arsenal in the summer of 2023 for a transfer fee of €15m and was one of the key figures in the club’s double victory in the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal last season. With a market value of €17m, he is the second most valuable player over 30 in the Bundesliga.

Xhaka has experienced a most uncommon drop in form lately, earning poor marks in the German press over his last eight fixtures across all competitions. He last got his name on the scoresheet in a matchday 24 win over Eintracht Frankfurt.
