Jaime 'Jimmy' Lozano has officially been appointed as the newest permanent head coach for the Mexico national team after he successfully guided the team to a 2023 Gold Cup title.

After El Tri hit one of their lowest points in some time after losing to the US men's national team 3-0 in the Nations League semi-final and edging Panama 1-0 in the third place game, a change needed to be made. The Mexican Federation dismissed Diego Cocca, and brought in Lozano on an interim basis for the upcoming Gold Cup.

Lozano exceeded expectations and then some, by dragging Mexico out of a hole and instilling confidence in the players as they marched to the Gold Cup final. The Mexico that everyone had become accustomed to seeing was back: playing with flair and intensity to overwhelm their opponents.

It wasn't just the El Tri fans advocating for Lozano to be the next head coach, but legendary goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa also expressed his desire for Lozano to remain in charge after the Gold Cup.

"I am very pleased to inform you officially, and I know it is not going to be a surprise for most of you that we have chosen Jaime Lozano to lead the senior national team project ahead of the 2026 World Cup," Mexican Football Federation executive Ivar Sisniega stated.

Lozano made it clear that he'd love nothing more than to coach his home nation in the upcoming World Cup, saying "it would be a dream to lead my national team in a World Cup."

Now, Lozano will have the chance to do just that should he keep achieving positive results for his country leading up to the biggest competition in sports in 2026.
