Considering the current circumstances, it is no secret that Lionel Messi will leave Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season. The veteran forward ends his deal in June and Barcelona are trying everything in their power to bring their historic goal-scorer back to Spotify Camp Nou.
Now, a lot has been said about Messi’s future and his plausible deal with Barcelona, but if a report from Onda Cero is to be believed, the World Cup winner plans to return to Barcelona for just one more season before he heads to Saudi Arabia.
Interestingly enough, Barcelona veterans Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets share the same idea.
In all fairness, Busquets’ future is more or less dependent on Messi’s return to Barcelona. The veteran midfielder ends his contract at the end of the season and there are reports that he might as well continue for another season.
For what it is worth, Busquets’ continuity will be really helpful for Barcelona as signing a new deal would mean he would agree to lower his wages to just €7 million per year, which would be less than a third of what he currently earns.
Lowering his wages would give Barcelona a bit of a free hand in complying with the Financial Fair Play rule while also adhering to La Liga’s salary limit. So in a way, Busquets’ continuity is not really triggered by the financial factor, but it is down to Messi’s return to Barcelona.
As far as Alba is concerned, he still has one more year left on his contract and by the time his deal expires, he plans to leave Barcelona together with Messi and Busquets and move to Saudi Arabia.
Messi’s future, on the other hand, continues to hang as Barcelona are still finding ways to sign him in the summer.
The 35-year-old, who was currently suspended by Paris Saint-Germain, personally wants to return to Barcelona, but the team must comply with several regulations before making it official.
