Argentina’s Copa America victory over Colombia means Lionel Messi has become the most decorated player in football history, surpassing former team-mate Dani Alves having now won 45 trophies across a glittering career.
Subdtitute Lautaro Martinez struck in extra time to ensure Argentina beat Colombia 1-0 in the final of Copa America.
Messi was forced off in the second half due to injury and was visibly emotional while leaving the pitch but that despair later turned to joy when Martinez scored to hand Argentina another trophy following their World Cup triumph in 2022.
Messi’s 45 trophies with club and country includes that World Cup triumph, two Copa Americas, four Champions League titles and ten La Liga championships with Barcelona.
He won 15 domestic trophies for the Catalan club, as well as three UEFA Super Cups and three Club World Cups.
With PSG, he twice won Ligue 1 as well as the Trophee des Champions, before moving to Inter Miami where he won the Leagues Cup.
He has also won the the 2005 U17 World Cup, the 2008 Olympic Games and the UEFA Cup of Champions with Argentina.
That list could still grow longer yet, with Messi having the chance to win more with Inter Miami and Argentina.
