After a resounding 4-0 success in their first FA Cup match of the campaign against Harrogate Town, Luton Town will be looking to progress to the last 16 of the competition when they take on Cambridge United at the Abbey Stadium on Saturday evening.

And the Hatters are facing a giant-killing team who took out Newcastle United in the last round at St. James’ Park, so they know that they do not face an easy task whatever team they put out.

It’s been a hectic few weeks for Nathan Jones’ side though as since January 15 they’ve played six matches in the league, winning four out of those and losing just the once.

Jake Howells?

Yes No

Those results have kept Luton very much in touch with the play-off chasing pack but they have to focus on the cup this weekend – but who is Jones going to select in his side? Let’s try to predict his starting 11.

Following their gruelling recent schedule, there is set to be some changes to the Luton line-up as admitted already by Jones.

Some players have played a lot of minutes recently – the likes of Kal Naismith, Amari’i Bell, James Shea and Pelly Ruddock have all been regular starters and there may be an inkling in Jones’ mind to leave some of them out.

And it could give the likes of Dan Potts – who has featured just once in the league this season – a chance to impress at left wing back ahead of Bell, and a debut could come for Aston Villa loanee Jed Steer in place of Shea.

In the middle of the park either Ruddock or Allan Campbell could be rested in favour of Luke Berry, whilst the lesser-spotted Carlos Mendes Gomes, whose last appearance was as a starter against Harrogate, could be favoured in the more advanced midfield role.

And there was a rare start for the experienced Danny Hylton against Swansea City in midweek – two matches in quick succession for a player with his lack of recent game-time may be too much so Cameron Jerome you would expect will get his chance – unless Elijah Adebayo is fully-fit to return.
