Chelsea are now 11 points behind league leaders Liverpool after suffering a second defeat in four games on Saturday.

Manager Maurizio Sarri has suggested there’s a mental block hanging over his squad following their 1-0 loss to Leicester City.

A first defeat at Stamford Bridge appears to have underlined the urgency in Sarri’s mind to address their psychological issues.

“I had a sports psychologist 15 years ago in Italy but it was difficult, because the clubs were not ready then. But we can talk about it – why not?” Sarri told press.

The Blues had a number of chances to draw level after Jamie Vardy scored but the home team could not finish those opportunities.

Just two weeks ago Chelsea was flying high against Manchester City but they struggled mightily at home against Leicester.

The Italian manager is considering bringing in someone to help the Chelsea medical staff evaluate the minds of his players after admitting to being puzzled by their inconsistency.

“It’s difficult to understand. We have players with long experience,”

“The reason we lost was not our physical condition. On Saturday we were very good for 55 minutes and then two minutes after the goal we were in trouble. So I think there is another reason.”

Sarri is keen to try psychological resources to fix the team’s mentality before looking to the January transfer market to recruit.

“We reacted a little shocked and with mental confusion. We had to only keep playing like we did before the goal, there was time to recover.”
