Gung-ho on gorgeous goals, Mats Rits two-shooter decided the encounter with Charleroi in Club Brugge's eager favour. The win takes Club back to nine points from runaway leaders Union.
“We were in control the entire game, creating lots of chances. They played in block in the first half, allowing us to come, with lots of space for Nsoki and Mata. As long as they kept us from scoring, things would be tight. After that 2-0 we really should have added a third or a fourth. We also conceded some chances by the end of the game, fortunately without visiting success. Simon kept us afloat there, but we really should have killed the game earlier on. We knew the results of the other teams, but we really only should be looking at ourselves. Union lost out on points, so did we last week. Today's win is a vital one.”
“I preferred my first goal, with that ball bouncing and me taking it in one go with the left. Two comparable goals, however, with me infiltrating from far off. It's the first time I score twice in one game in Club attire.”
In the meantime, coach Schreuder continues the convoluted task of getting the team up to speed. “It's good that we can now work on a week basis in order to get those accents right. And that's what we'll keep doing in the coming weeks. We're the type of team playing a dominant style of football with lots of possession. At times you need to rush forward quickly, and that's how our goals came about today. I like playing the 8, it's where I played the most throughout my career. Infiltrating, playing box-to-box, it's what I prefer, it's my quality as a player, playing centrally.”
Ruud Vormer remained glued to the bench, with Odoi taking his spot. "Ruud will have his meaning for Club still. Both on and off the pitch he's our skipper, supporting the team wherever he can. Dennis Odoi is a good player, capable of playing many positions. He also brings a lot of experience to the table, with a lot of healthy agression too. I don't really remember his stint in Belgium, but you can see he has played in England. He's a player we can use.” (KN)
