Mats Hummels was the hero as his double helped Borussia Dortmund beat Freiburg 4-2
Scorers: Höler 45+2′, Höfler 45+6′; Hummels 11′ 88′, Malen 60′
After an indifferent start to the campaign, Dortmund were clearly in the mood here as they netted inside the opening 15 minutes.
A Julian Brandt corner found Mats Hummels at the back post and the central defender headed back across goal and into the back of the net.
Just before half time though, the game turned upside down.
First Lucas Höler netted an equaliser in the second minute of added time and then Nicolas Höfler finished with aplomb in the sixth minute to give Freiburg the lead.
Into the second half and Dortmund got themselves level on the hour mark as Donny Malen slotted home with a cool one-on-one finish.
Höfler’s day started well but ended badly as he was given a red card late on for a wild challenge on Marcel Sabitzer.
But, in the dying minutes, this crazy game took another turn.
Hummels scored his second of the game with just two minutes to go to give Dortmund a 3-2 lead.
That wasn’t the end of the goals though, as Marco Reus got in on the act with a strike in the 92nd minute.
