Despite having been linked with a Chivas return seemingly since his departure, Matías Almeyda did not come back to Guadalajara after his journey with San Jose Earthquakes came to an end.
Instead, he is managing in Europe for the very first time, having joined Greek giants AEK Athens.
Almeyda has finally broken his silence over why there wasn’t a reunion at Chivas and why he may not ever come back to the club.
“I have no problem with Amaury, I am grateful to the Vergara family, I have said it more than once,” he explained to Fox Sports.
“Whenever something happened in Chivas my name came out, but Amaury is not obliged to call me, nor is Amaury obliged to like my way of training and he is respectable.
“It’s a matter of taste and Amaury doesn’t see me as a good fit to manage Chivas. My style is not his taste. It’s not a bad thing.”
It’s believed that Almeyda wants to bring Eduardo ‘Chofis’ Lopez to Greece after his very successful loan spell with San Jose. Lopez is still owned by Chivas and could be sold this summer.
