Matheus Cunha admitted he felt deflated after Atlético Madrid’s 1-0 loss to Alavés on Saturday.
The 22-year-old Brazil international, who arrived from Hertha BSC towards the end of the recent transfer window, was introduced as a substitute just before the hour mark at the Mendizorroza.
However he was unable to help Atleti cancel out Victor Laguardia’s fourth-minute winner.
“It is difficult to speak after a defeat,” Cunha said, per MARCA.
“When we are on the court, we do everything to win. We always fight with our heads high for every ball.
“The defeat makes us feel bad. We are going to do everything to put Atlético where it was the last season.”
It was a first league defeat of the season for the defending LaLiga champions, who now face a trip to face Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday.
