Atlético de Madrid earned all three points as they defeated Copa del Rey holders Athletic Club.

It was an even affair from the start, though most of the play was stuck in midfield as both teams struggled to carve out high-quality scoring chances.

The deadlock was broken inside 20 minutes however, as Rodrigo De Paul snatched the lead for the hosts, but it did not last until the break.

In the dying minutes of the half, Nico Williams pulled the away side level to set up a tight second interval.

The drama continued after the break when Ángel Correa reclaimed the lead for Atleti as they searched for an important win in the top-four battle.

There would be no response this time around however, and the home side eventually found their third in the dying minutes thanks to an Unai Simón own-goal.
