As reported by Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Manchester City are expected to announce the signing of Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic imminently.
The Croatian, who joined Chelsea in 2018, will reportedly cost Manchester City around €30m including bonuses. Final negotiations between the two clubs are ongoing before an announcement is expected, which is also confirmed by Fabrizio Romano.
Kovacic is one of several players that are expected to leave Chelsea in the summer. Édouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, N’Golo Kanté and Hakim Ziyech are all linked with a move to Saudi Arabia as Chelsea look to make their squad smaller.
Since his move from Real Madrid in 2018, Kovacic has played 221 games across all competitions for Chelsea, scoring six and creating 15. Under Thomas Tuchel, the Croat played 67, and was an important member of the German’s squad. This prompted Bayern Munich, now coached by Tuchel, to show interest in signing Kovacic.
Kovacic will become Manchester City’s first signing of the summer.
