Although their efforts to renew Alexis Sánchez had dominated the headlines until now, Marseille appear to be moving ahead on other fronts now – notably with the prospective arrival of Iliman Ndiaye from Sheffield United.

According to Foot Mercato tonight, Les Phocéens are closing in on the signing of Brazilian left-back Renan Lodi, with a deal in principle set to be found with Atlético Madrid for the 25-year-old.

Marseille had been focusing on reinforcing their full-back options in the wake of the departures of Sead Kolašinac, Issa Kaboré and Nuno Tavares, with new head coach Marcelino set on deploying a four-man backline.

The Brazilian international, who spent last season out on loan at Nottingham Forest and had attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, has also verbally agreed to join the Ligue 1 side. Lodi had been with the Colchoneros since 2019 – he was under contract until 2026 – and made 32 appearances in England this past season.
