Valentin Rongier (30) has entered the final year of his contract at Olympique de Marseille, and contract negotiations appear to have stalled, as per information from L’Équipe.
The French outlet writes that the player and the club’s position on his financial package are wide apart, with the player wanting to be paid a similar amount to Geoffrey Kondogbia and Ismaël Bennacer (before he returned to AC Milan). While, the club believe that his current wage (estimated at around €330,00 per month) is sufficient, as it already places him as one of the top 10 earners at the club.
It’s a situation which has led clubs across Europe to Marseille’s door asking for details, with L’Équipe explaining that Sunderland AFC and Como 1907 have made contact with Les Phocéens, albeit without making a formal offer. Marseille are open to a sale for their former captain and the squad’s longest-serving player, and have set a €10m valuation.
