Sunderland have confirmed the signing of Simon Adingra from Brighton, as the newly promoted Premier League side continue to make waves in the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old Ivorian winger has penned a five-year contract with Sunderland, committing his future to the club until 2030. Sunderland’s pursuit of Adingra has been swift and decisive, with Sky Sports News reporting that the Black Cats agreed an £18 million fee with Brighton, potentially rising by a further £2.5 million through add-ons.
Adingra becomes Sunderland’s fifth addition of the summer, taking their total spend to over £100 million. The club have already brought in Enzo Le Fée for £18 million, Habib Diarra for £28 million, Noah Sadiki for £17 million, Chemsdine Talbi for £18 million and Reinildo Mandava on a free transfer.
Sunderland’s return to the Premier League has been marked by aggressive recruitment as they look to strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead. The focus now turns to the goalkeeper position, with links to Southampton’s Aaron Ramsdale and Wolves’ Sam Johnstone as the Black Cats seek to bolster their options between the posts.
There is a clear ambition within the Sunderland hierarchy to not just survive in the top flight but to compete, as shown by the calibre of their recent signings.
Adingra leaves Brighton having impressed with his pace, dribbling and attacking flair. His time at the Amex Stadium saw him emerge as one of Brighton’s most exciting prospects, catching the eye of several clubs before Sunderland moved in decisively.
The Ivorian will now look to bring that same energy and creativity to the Stadium of Light, where fans will hope he can provide the spark needed on the flanks.
With over £100 million already invested in the squad this summer, Sunderland are showing no signs of slowing down. The focus on Adingra highlights their commitment to adding young, dynamic talent, and the search for a new goalkeeper suggests there may be more business to come before the window closes.
Sunderland supporters will be eager to see how Adingra settles in and whether his arrival can help propel the club to a successful Premier League campaign.
