Olympique de Marseille owner Frank McCourt has moved to publicly back the club’s hierarchy and head coach Roberto De Zerbi after a turbulent start to the season marked by an opening day defeat and the fallout from a dressing room fight between Frenchman Adrien Rabiot (30) and England U21 winger Jonathan Rowe (22).In a statement released on Friday to AFP, the American business gave his support to President Pablo Longoria, as well as Director of Football Medhi Benatia and head coach Roberto De Zerbi. “I express my support and full confidence in Pablo Longoria, Medhi Benatia, and Roberto De Zerbi in their mission in service of the club,” McCourt wrote.Without referencing the incident directly, McCourt alluded to the altercation between Rabiot and Jonathan Rowe that has seen both players placed on the transfer list. “The management of the club rests on fundamental values: humility, discipline, respect for others, hierarchies, and the institution – principles that allowed the club to achieve its objectives last year,” he added.McCourt closed his message with a rallying cry ahead of what he termed a “major season, both domestically and in Europe”: “Everyone must devote themselves solely to Olympique de Marseille and do what is necessary to win on the pitch.”GFFN | George Boxall
