RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins is reporting that Olympique de Marseille have entered into discussions to sign former Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Romain Saïss (33), who currently plays for Besiktas.
Saïss departed Molineux last summer to join the Turkish side, and whilst according to Foot Mercato, Nottingham Forest and Everton are interested in bringing the Moroccan international back to the Premier League this summer, Marseille now seem to be the favourites to sign the defender.
Marseille are already in discussions with the player, according to Hawkins. A two or three-year deal, with the option for a further year, is being discussed. Besiktas are currently demanding €4m for Saïss, although the player could ultimately end up leaving for less.
Whilst facing competition from the Premier League, Marseille could also face competition from Ligue 1 in the shape of RC Lens, who finished above Les Phocéens last season. The player’s preference, however, is for a move to the Vélodrome.
