Juventus continue to press for Leonardo Balerdi, though Olympique Marseille are standing firm, according to Tutto Juve. The Turin club have identified the Argentine as a priority target in this summer’s transfer market, a move driven in large part by new manager Igor Tudor, who previously coached Balerdi during his own spell in charge in Marseille.
Despite concrete interest from both Juventus and Roma, Marseille have made it clear that they intend to keep Balerdi as a central figure in their squad for the 2025 season. The French club, who have secured qualification for next season’s Champions League, view the 25-year-old as a leader both on and off the pitch, and are reluctant to entertain offers. Balerdi remains under contract in France until June 2028, a factor that further strengthens Marseille’s position as they look ahead to Europe’s top club competition.
Last season, Balerdi made 27 appearances in Ligue 1 and played twice in the Coupe de France, reinforcing his reputation as one of the most reliable centre-backs in French football. His stature has only risen following consistent performances and eight international caps with Argentina, which have helped drive up his market valuation.
Juventus’ pursuit is significant, with Tudor reportedly making a personal request to add Balerdi to his squad. The coach values the defender’s tactical discipline and experience under his previous guidance in Ligue 1. While Roma are also tracking Balerdi’s situation closely, Juventus appear to be in the most advanced position among suitors.
Marseille, for their part, remain unmoved. Club officials have communicated that Balerdi will not be an easy player to prise away, pointing to his contractual commitment and his role at the heart of the team’s plans for next season.
With the market open and key defensive reinforcements sought in Turin, attention will remain on whether Juventus can tempt the French side into negotiations—or if OM’s resolve will ultimately force the Bianconeri to look elsewhere.
