According to RMC Sport, despite the travel ban in place for Olympique de Marseille supporters before their match against Olympique Lyonnais yesterday evening, a Marseille fan was attacked en route to the stadium.

The Marseille fan was travelling in a crowded tram full of Lyon supporters as he wore his team’s shirt, where he is thought to have then shouted “Allez OM.” This incident grew in seriousness as the fan was then attacked by a group of ten Lyon supporters as he left the tram.

The police were alerted to the situation and pursued the perpetrators arresting at least one of the Lyon supporters, while the Marseille fan was transported to Edouard-Herriot hospital after suffering a dislocated shoulder in the confrontation.

This appears to be the one incident of violence surrounding the game, after away fans for the match were banned due to the events of the earlier abandoned fixture between the two sides in October.

That match was cancelled after the bus carrying the Lyon players and staff was attacked by Marseille fans as it travelled to the Stade Vélodrome. Then-manager of Lyon, Fabio Grosso was struck around the eye when a missile thrown at the bus shattered the windows and lacerated the manager.
