RMC Sport are reporting that Olympique de Marseille have made contact with former Paris Saint-Germain manager Christophe Galtier about taking the vacant managerial role.
Galtier is out of work since his departure from PSG at the end of last season. The Frenchman won the Ligue 1 title in his one-and-only season at the Parc des Princes, however, his side fell short of expectations in the Champions League, whilst allegations of racist remarks, allegedly made during his spell as OGC Nice manager, polluted his reign. Galtier has rejected the accusations repeatedly, including in an interview with Canal Plus last week.
However, he has now been contacted about the Marseille role and has even been offered the job, according to RMC Sport. OM’s interest in Galtier, who is from the region, is nothing new. He was contacted by the club’s hierarchy following Igor Tudor’s departure in the summer, however, the timing wasn’t right and Galtier hadn’t even reached a financial agreement to leave PSG. However, following Marcelino’s departure last week, Marseille are dipping back into the managerial market.
The club’s hierarchy have already made contact with Galtier, who has many supporters within the club. The Frenchman is motivated to take the role, however, he and the club want to ascertain fan reaction before making forward steps. Given that he has only just left arch-rivals PSG, some level of hostility would be expected, even if he is in fact Marseillais.
