Marlon Pack has taken to Instagram to thank Portsmouth’s supporters for the warm welcome he has received following his return to Fratton Park.

The midfielder started his career at Portsmouth and made two senior appearances before sealing a move to Cheltenham Town in 2010.

Pack’s stint at Cardiff City reached a crescendo earlier this month when the club opted against offering him fresh terms.

During his time with the Championship side, Pack made 108 appearances for the Bluebirds in all competitions.

The 31-year-old will be aiming to help Portsmouth reach new heights in the third-tier later this year.

Having secured a 10th place finish in the League One standings last season, Pompey will be desperate to launch a push for promotion under the guidance of head coach Danny Cowley in the upcoming campaign.

Pack could potentially make his competitive debut for Portsmouth when they face Sheffield Wednesday on the opening weekend of the 2022/23 campaign next month.

After the club announced his return, Pack took to Instagram to share a message with Pompey’s supporters.

Pack shared some pictures of himself playing for the club’s academy with the caption: “Then and now.

“Delighted to have re-signed for @officialpompey after all these years.

Where do Portsmouth play their home games?

St James' Park Home Park Vitality Stadium Fratton Park

“From growing up in Buckland, to having a season ticket in the south stand and travelling up and down the country following the club, I now get to live my childhood dream.

“Being a Pompey fan, I know how much this club means to you all and I can’t wait to play at Fratton Park in front of this unbelievable fan base.

“Thank you all for the welcoming messages and the support.”

The Verdict

This could turn out to be a shrewd bit of business by Portsmouth as Pack may benefit from dropping down a division to represent his boyhood club.

By using his wealth of experience to his advantage next season, there is no reason why Pack cannot become a key player for Portsmouth.

Providing that Pompey are able to back up this particular move by securing the services of some more fresh faces between now and the end of transfer window, they could potentially become legitimate contenders for promotion later this year.
