It was a matter of formality, but it’s now a done deal as Marcus Thuram has put pen to paper on a five-year contract that will keep him at Inter Milan until 2028.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Borussia Monchengladbach forward will earn around €6.5 million net per season after turning down an approach from AC Milan to pledge his future to the Nerazzurri.

Thuram, who spent the past four years at Gladbach before refusing to extend his deal this summer, will officially become a new Inter player on July 1, once his contract at Borussia-Park runs out.

He landed in Italy on Tuesday morning in the company of his father, Lilian, to undergo medical checks before penning a contract at Giuseppe Meazza in the evening.

Inter turned to the Frenchman after deciding against renewing Edin Dzeko’s contract, as they look to partner him up with Lautaro Martinez, who has recently drawn attention from Real Madrid.

Despite Thuram’s arrival, the Italians remain hopeful of securing another loan deal for Chelsea misfit Romelu Lukaku, whose future is at a crossroads following a topsy-turvy 2022/23 campaign.

Following an injury-plagued first half of the season, the Belgian striker rediscovered his touch towards the final stretch, convincing the Nerazzurri board to negotiate an extension to his temporary deal.

As for Thuram, he had several proposals on the table before opting for Inter, with Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and several Premier League clubs vying for his signature earlier in the summer.

The 25-year-old had a decent season at Gladbach in 2022/23, netting 13 goals and delivering six assists in 30 Bundesliga appearances, taking his career tally in Germany’s top flight to 34 across four seasons.

Like his brother Marcus, Nice star Khephren could leave his current club by the end of the summer, with Liverpool taking an interest in the highly-rated midfielder.

Besides the 22-year-old, the Reds have recently joined the hunt for Southampton gem Romeo Lavia as Jurgen Klopp seeks further midfield reinforcements after landing Alexis Mac Allister.
